Using quotes in an essay from the same source?
I am writing an essay for my English class. In the essay I have used many quotes, all from the same book. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I need to repeatedly say the chapter number and its name before every quotation, or if I should not mention the chapter at all.

When citing material from the same book, I tend to continually cite the chapter or page number, or just the author and year and in the works cited use the title. For instance if you had just quoted me “Cite the chapter or page number” (Yubindin, 2007). I would reccomend trying to paraphrase or re-write the quotes in your own words. 🙂

maria,
personally I would at least mention the chapters some, but not throughout the whole essay. There is also the idea that you could at least put the title of the book in the essay and have your readers growing in suspense to finish the essay and then going to the book and find the answer for themselves.

you may want to ask your teacher on that one because i honestly think that all you need to do is make a works cited page it you have a lot of quotes..but ask them
however, if you have 10 or less i would cite the author and pg. number

depends on the format. I’ll asume that you’re using MLA since it’s English. You should be able to list the page number and the author. ex.
“insert quote here” (Author 23 ).
