Not if the balance of the building is aflame.

The normal metals you would typically find in roofing material are about as good as roofing gets when fire is the issue. Almost anything will burn but the flash point of steel and aluminum is so high that it can be discounted for all practical purposes. A reasonably steep metal roof will shed embers from other fires and protect the building in that way. Now the same roof that sheds embers will do nothing if 50 gallons of gasoline is ignited in a wooden structure with a metal roof.

If you have a home in a forest and choose metal over cedar shakes I would consider that to be a wise choice. The problem comes in when you consider appearance. Most metal roofs are ugly at worst and very bland at best. Shake roofs are far more appealing visually to most people than are the steel or aluminum roofs that are less susceptible to fire.

fire proof or fire safe?

I’ve seen metal (tin) roofs catch fire. not fire proof

whether or not the contents would be protected from the flame depends on the gauge and type of metal.
