Absolutely. You might have (as a student) a question that needs to be answered in order to solidify your thoughts before the new class session begins and you might have some questions after the new material was presented. I always made time for my students outside of class time; you might have to make an appt, but the opportunity should be there.

I’m a junior in high school this year. I think it’s very important for teachers to be available before and after school to help students who aren’t understanding things or are having a problem in class. There are many students who don’t feel comfortable approaching the teacher during class time to get extra help, so they just struggle on their own and a lot of times just give up. If teachers are available at other times besides during class, then that gives students opportunities to get the extra help that they need.

I know for me at least, that it’s also nice to have a teacher or two there before school or after school if I just need to talk. School can be very stressful whether it be with homework, friends, etc. As students, we all have something that we need to talk about with someone. and a lot of times teachers are the only trustworthy adults in students lives. Teachers play a very important part in the lives of students.

Yes teachers should be accessible before and after school. My instructor gave the class his number to call if we need any additional infromation or help with what we were doing.

I was working on a Titration Lab experiment the moles were giving a bit of a problem so I took up the phone and called my instructor, then after an explaination that clarified the problem and i was able to complete the lab write up.

As a teacher, I am always accessible. When you sign that employment paper at your school, you are signing on to be basically a secondary parent to the children in your classroom. My students know that they can always come to me a half hour before school starts and a half hour after school ends. I am accessible by email between 6:45am and 10:00pm and I tell them to give me a 24 turn around time if they contact me by email. If a student is struggling in class, they need to know and feel safe that they can come to you with questions in privacy. Also, in the college/university and community college setting, we have students that have jobs that cannot come to your office during office hours and need to have that flexibility.

Because it’s their job.
