Which level is it better to teach at: high school or college?
Favorite Answer
College teaching is being involved with your subject matter and relaying it to students with fewer obligations to deal with. College instructors/professors have more flexible schedules. They are held to a higher standard in terms of teaching content.
Preparation for these professions is quite different. High School teachers are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in your content area with Education courses and student teaching.
College teachers are required to have a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching area. Some colleges — and especially universities — require a doctorate.
Best of luck to you.
Begin teaching in a high school and see how you like it. At the same time continue your eductions taking more classes including the ones in your subject. You will need advanced degrees for college teaching such as a Masters and Ph.D.
The additional classes will at the same time better prepare you for high school teaching and also for permanent certification and the increments that come with additional courses and degrees.
Good luck.
From a High School Administrator who has an Ed.D. and has also taught in colleges.
In high school, the pace is very fast. You get to know your students much better as you see them everyday. You can feel their excitement for games, and other events throughout the year. Of course, you deal with students that are mouthy, indifferent, and parents who defend their child’s behavior. If you can get past that, the rest of the students can give you great satisfaction. And you should take on some advisorships, too.
Both have tons of paperwork, I didn’t really see any difference in that.
