Yeah she can

Your missing out on participation that you cannot make up because you were not physically in class

Dumb, I know, but some teachers like to do that 🙁

First of all, are you in college?

Some college teachers will grade partially (or sometimes mostly) on attendance and participation. Most of the teachers at my college will allow you to bring in a doctor’s note saying that you were indeed sick and will not dock you points. However there are always the few that will be sticklers on attendance and this will not be enough and you are probably just out those points.

If you are in high school or below, I would talk to an administrator about what is allowed for attendance points. At my high school, we had to be called in sick by our parents and it was called an excused absence. Teachers would allow you time (usually 2 days for every day gone) to make up any work. If we were not called in or “excused” then it was called an “unexcused absence” which meant that we could not make up any points and also received discipline points.

It depends on how many days total you have missed and if you have a written excuse as to why you were out. In college, you can be allowed to miss a certain number of days then after that the professor can take off a letter grade for each day you miss.

YES…unfortunately she can. the only thing you can do (maybe) is take in a doctors note directly from the doctors office. OR if you have a LOT of unexcused absences, sometimes a parent or legal guardian can sign off to excuse them…

If she has participation points or points for a class activity or even points for walking through the door and you were not there, yes.

I have never heard of this being done- would ask the Principal. I would check in on it- doesn’t seem fair-
