Students face GANG problems I would say that is the #1 issue with schools and students…students also face peer pressure when it comes to drugs and alcohol and finally parents at home. Schools should have anti-gang awareness programs like small communities and target the students that show signs of gang activities, school should also develop workshops to educate children about drugs and alcohol, bring in guest speakers, parent/student workshops, and finally school should develop a community-parent involvement community to reach out parents so that they’re more and better involved in their children’s lives…if parents know whats going and show that they care the children’s overall performance will be at their best. I hope this helps! Good Luck! 🙂

Students face drugs and alcohol, peer pressure, and bullies. Schools have an important role in helping students deal with these issues because in many istances, students do not get support at home, and their school and teachers may be the only bit of normalcy in their life. Teachers shouldn’t have to be “parents” but unforunately they are often thrust into that role, because parents are unavailable or just bad parents in general. School may be one of the last few places a child can learn good values and get help with problems.

Drugs and alcohol

Lack of parental involvement in their lives

Growing up too fast

Schools need more counseling for students. Drug and alcohol programs are needed when you consider that some of these students are watching their own parents abuse alcohol. Schools have developed character education, starting in the early grades to instill values, morals, and integrity.

Very tough road for kids these days…

Students face peer pressure. Top three things? Sex, drugs (which includes alcohol and cigarettes), and crime.

How to teach:

Sex- discuss many risks of STDs, how they are contracted, and difficulties of teen pregnancy and early parenthood

Drugs- Show pictures of what it does to your body; bring in a near death cancer patient who smoked, give statistics that have meaning on their level.

Crime- Have prisoner come to speak; educate students on why people choose crime and statistically what happens in terms of jail time. Give students alternatives to crime; after school programs/activities/ groups, help to plan short and long term goals.
