These suggestions may sound “silly”, but they really can help: 1) Label as many items as you can/want in your home with the correct Italian term, then force yourself to get used to seeing those words attached with the objects, 2) Set aside one hour a day where you only speak/read/write Italian or else you don’t speak/read/write, 3) Read ‘easy’ Italian books (even children’s books), 4) Listen to an Italian-speaker on one of those CD-language-learning programs at least three times a week. Good luck and be patient. Learning languages takes work and discipline, but it’s worth it and you can do it!

I understand somewhat of Spanish and not too long ago heard a couple of distinct folks speakin Italian in entrance of me (it used to be being translated to English for me) and even as there have been a few similarities, there have been a LOT of diffrences, I very nearly couldn’ understad a phrase of it despite the fact that I knew that there have been phrases that appeared like Spanish phrases (despite the fact that that would were the ranslation as an alternative than the language itself). I feel it’s less difficult to select one up if you already know the opposite however I feel you might do good with an Italian phrasebook

Plain memorization does not assure retention. One way for you to recall what you are trying to memorize is to associate lines with photos or videos. Another thing is to try to be friend an Italian online perhaps to talk with so that you can practice using the language.
