What organizations help minority students get to college?

She’s entering 12 grade at a high school in Brooklyn. Her science grades are good. She wants to study nursing / health sciences. How can she get help to identify the right school for her, get through the application process and get financial aid?

My best guess is that she should start with her high school guidance counselor as well as talk to reps at local colleges.

Yes, the high school counselor should be able to help her, but checking local colleges is great as well. 2-year colleges are great places to start and are less intimidating than a large university. Because 2-year colleges are smaller, they are often able to give more individual help; the grant money also goes a lot farther b/c the tuition is cheaper.
