What is wrong with cheating on homework and tests?

Successful individuals are people who have many qualities, none of which you seem to realize, based on your question and reasoning.
One of those things is recognizing an easy solution, which you seem to think cheating is. An easier solution would be studying. You get the feeling of accomplishment, don’t have to continue cheating to remember the material, actually understand it, and you don’t have to worry if the other person knew what they were talking about.
Something else that successful individuals have is a sense of self, and a sense of ethics. If you copy someone else’s work, you get the same grade they did without doing any of the work. They might have worked for days, weeks, even months on homework, and all you did was rephrase it in probably five minutes. This not only represents you as lazy and a poor sense of a character, but it also throws the work that the other person spent so much time on into the dust. What you want to do is make people fail, or even make them feel worthless because you have no care for what they spent on that work.
Adults do, occasionally, look up answers. However, you must recognize that they must have some prerequisite knowledge to do so. In order to find said answers, they have to know exactly where to look, what it will be under, what is trustworthy.
Cheating is simply unethical. If you ask me, it makes you out to be lazy, cruel, and from the way you phrased it, just wanting an easy out.
All of your reasoning just leads me to think you are immature, because you push all of the blame for cheating onto teachers.
Yes, adults do look up things on the Internet and in dictionaries, etc. However, educated adults can take care of their daily lives, read a newpaper and understand it, have an intelligent conversation without embarrassing themselves, etc. without googling anything. They can do this because they learned the necessary skills and general information in school.
You should always do your own work because if you don’t, you won’t refine the skills necessary to make you a thinker. Thinking skills will get you where you want to go in life. Believe it or not, a lot of the information on the Internet is garbage. If you’re not a thinker, how do you figure out what’s garbage and what’s not?
Collaborating to find the right answer is something that teacher’s should do more of. Thinking in teams is something that should be taught at all age levels. Working together to solve problems is the wave of the future and I, as a teacher see the need for more collaboration and for better computer programs in the classroom.
I can also see the other side of the coin though and tell you that those mind numbing facts that you are learning in school help to increase your knowledge of the world around you. The more facts that you learn the more recognizable you will become to others around you. This recognition is seen in grades and higher grades increase the chance you’ll be chosen to get a scholarship and accepted to the college of your choice. So take heart, and don’t let the facts get you down just think of it as one more step to attaining my personal goals.
Tests are primarily used to determine your knowledge on a certain topic. The results enable the teacher to know what material should be remediated.
When I was in high school, there were several students who would copy from each other and me. I would write incorrect answers for every question. When they turned in their papers, I would change my answers. They did it all year and never figured it out.
Consider this: In the “real” world, copying can have some very negative and harsh consequences. If you are caught doing it in college, you will be placed on academic probation and possibly expelled. NO REFUND. So, you just wasted your tuition.
Outside of college: You can face fines up to $250,000.00 and 5 years in prison. I was student teaching at a school that got busted for having more copies than were authorized by the copyright agreement. Since it was a first offense, they were let off with a $10,000.00 fine.
I had it happen to me. I teach and write music at two schools.
The other day I noticed some new music that one of my partners had purchased for the drumline (I teach his drumline).
I looked through the cadence music and noticed one that I had written and taught at another school.
Since this involves a music publishing company, I am going for the maximum penalty for $250,000.00 and 10 years because as a publishing business they are supposed to know the various laws of copyright infringement. And, I already know that if I copied and marketed their music, they would go after me as well.
The people we read about everyday in the news that have cheated there way along in business are eventually caught, humiliated and charged. So you see the impact of cheating is far reaching in society. Do yourself a favor and do it the right way. I promise you that you’ll never be sorry. Integrity is precious and so is your word and good name.
