I would like to be a teacher when i get older. So, I talked to my best friends mom who used to be a teacher who is now an Accountant. She said that the kids are great and teaching is great but the teaching politics is the bad thing. What is teaching politics??

You’ll find that when you start working anywhere there are politics involved. Basicly, its adults treating eachother negatively.

I find it best to focus on the kids, and if you stay positive, the politics will likely pass you by. Don’t let someone else’s negative experience keep you away from your dreams. Find a teacher who’s been teaching for years (go back and visit a former teacher) and ask them… they will likely say it doesn’t affect them much.

good luck!

Just like in a government, everybody has an opinion on how they think things should be run, a school works in a similar way… except no body can vote.

Say for example, your band teacher wants the school to have three lunch periods instead of two so he can have band during that time and let his kids eat second lunch. He might complain all the time to the principle that there are too many kids eating at once so the principle will decide to change it, but another teacher may want to keep it at too lunches, so she’ll complain about the band teacher, saying he is selfish and wants to mess things up for his own benefit. -Arguments like this can often happen. But normally, they only effect people who want to fight about it. I don’t care about any of the policies at my school, as long as I still get paid, and the politics don’t really bother me at all.

I think what she was trying to say is that she doesn’t like “the politics of teaching.” All the red tape and administrative challenges.
