What have you learned more about outside of the classroom than inside? Should it be taught in schools?

I also learnt that there are consequences for everything i do.
Respect for everyone and acceptance of people in general and how you need to think about what you are about to say and make sure it doesnt hurt the next person.
I also learnt that in life you may not feel that your parents know best but in actual fact they do and that they arent perfect but they do the best they can with what they have.
And also not to grow up too fast because you have plenty of time for that.Once childhood is gone you cant get it back.
Also the importance of budgeting and managing money and saving.
These are all the things i wish children would be taught in school because these are the things that build character and make them better human beings.
Some schools are teaching it now. The Santa Clarita school district, for example, has a complete video deparment that produces cable access TV shows. They also have a complete recording studio with Pro Tools.
You can’t teach visual astronomy in schools, because they work at night and that’s when you can see things. A virtual scope on a computer screen is not the same as moving an equitorial mounted telescope, lining up, focusing and seeing something like Saturn for the first time with your own eyes.
School has lots of short comings. They don’t teach creative writing with the goal of getting published. You want to learn that, you go to Learning Tree where a published author teaches you the tricks and essentials of what it takes to put together a good submission.
The problems with schools is most teachers never held a real job in their entire lives. They don’t teach from experience.
Once these kids leave school they go to the Job Center and that pretty much is their income for a few years. Or better yet, they get an apprenticeship (maybe) and eventually become someone they are proud of.
I think (if not wish) that these kids could get the skills they need for apprenticeships in school for a wide range of jobs out there. If education, in the strictest sense of the word, is really not for them (and education really isn’t for everyone) then why not teach them what they really need to know if they are to survive in the big bad world.
They need to know what it takes to be a carpenter, painter and decorator, a plumber, an electrician etc…
End of story.
raising children especially the first 5 years
what to really expect in college
decision making
accepting consequences for those decisions.
ALSO – popularity doesn’t get you far outside of H.S. Sad truth, but ultimately, the truth.
Yes, they should be taught in school.
