I was looking on a school site that gives the teachers salaries for that district it said steps what does that mean, it’s not years or degrees because it gave a description for that.

Teachers salaries are set by the local board of education, and the steps represent the next level up on the salary scale, with that scale being what the local board makes it. It is usually representative of years of experience, Level of education (rank 1, rank 2, rank3, etc.), and aditional certification requirements (which vary state to state).

It is really just talking about the different pay levels that a teacher can receive. Most likely, the longer a teacher works for this school, the higher step, or pay level they achieve.

It’s the teacher’s salary that comprises a combination of the years of service and level of teacher’s higher education.
