What are tutoring fees in your area?

For a certified teacher, what are the fees for tutoring per hour? Also, would it make a difference if you are tutoring elementary vs. High school? At their home, in school, or your house, would you charge differently?

I have been charging the same for 10 years and I think it’s about time I increase my fee, but don’t know what would be reasonable.

I was getting $35 per hour when I stopped (3 years ago). Parents seemed to think it was a bargain. I am not in a big city. We have fairly low cost-of living here. So prices are probably higher in urban areas.

Tutoring centers charge fees on par with universities, as a point of reference.

I always charge $25/hour for tutoring high school science courses. I also live in the south.

I think $25/hour is fair.

My husband tutors college level, too and usually charges about the same.

I think increasing to $30 or $35/hr would be reasonable.

I charge $20.00 if they come to my house, $25.00 for local students in their home, and $30.00 if I drive more than 15 miles. I charge the same for elementary through adult students. I also charge the same rate for computer repair or consulting ( a profitable side business) that local shops charge $50-$75 for with a two hour minimum.

Generally you can charge more if you have to go to the student’s home; less if they come to your place. To find out the rates other tutors are charging see http://www.tuitionplaza.com/tutoring/
