What are some other jobs people can do w/ an M.A. in EC/Spec. ed & certified besides being a teacher?

Can you provide a list of careers that people go into with a master’s degree in early childhood and/or special education besides teaching a full class? I am not looking for vague answers, like, how to look for a job, just a reference list of titles and maybe some descriptions. Someone told me about one called an “early intervention specialist”, but I need to know more. Your (serious) reply is most appreciated.

You could be a reading specialist in a school. They usually work with small groups of students who need additional help and as a resource for teachers. This would probably require additional credentials depending on where you are applying for a job. Most special education teachers teach small class sizes or work with the regular classroom teacher in an inclusive setting. If you want to consider a job outside of a school you could consider becoming a corporate trainer. A lot of companies will hire teachers as trainers. You could also apply to work for a textbook publishing company. They have a variety of jobs from training teachers to using their materials to selling their materials.

Depending on your state, you may be certified to conduct the early intervention evaluations for kids birth to 3 in your school district. That might be what the person meant by intervention specialist. Google your county with birth to 3, then check their hiring info on their website.

Good luck…
