You say that your teachers can go to hell because you have long hair and are into metal? What does one thing have to do with the other? Obviously your English teacher is one that you’ve banished to hell before you learned to punctuate. What a shame!

I’m sorry that you feel that way. I happen to be a teacher at a private school with a very strict dress code. In fact, our students wear uniforms, hair for gentlemen must not grow below the earlobes, piercings are for girls ears only, skirts to the knees, no hair dye (etc, etc).

In real life, I happen to be a pretty cool person, listen to loud music, do not mind long hair, and understand that conforming to a norm is sometimes unfair and unjustified.

But, rules are rules… and as a teacher it is my job to enforce them. If you went to my school I would have to remind you to cut your hair, tuck in your shirt and turn down the music. Sometimes that’s just the way that life is.

Some teachers tell their students how to look because they see the potential that you may have for the future, they could believe that you are not “marketable” for the workplace. However, if you were my student, I could commend you for your individuality. It’s just your hair, who cares! If you like it, then it is apart of who you are. It is obvious that you are not a follower, you are a leader and maybe your teachers should realize that! This is only my opinion as a teacher, but I hope it will at least lift your spirits a little 🙂

Your standard of spelling and grammar suggest you are not a try hard sort of student.

We teachers cannot make you learn, nor can we make you behave, directly.

What the teachers who focus on your appearance and tastes are likely thinking is that they are running out of options to help you learn. All they are left with is what your physical presence suggests.

I won’t get on your case either but the reason teachers do their job is GENERALLY because the care enough to help.

It can be frustrating when a student isn’t learning.

May I make a suggestion that could assist?

Ask the teachers you say **** you off, what types of music they like.

Do this to build a bridge that is unlikely to cause conflict.

See most of the metal you listen to has its roots in previous bands. Bands I like to listen to and discuss with my year 12 students this year for example.

They play recent tracks they like and I dig out stuff that is connected to it and we get to listen to that as well;

Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Black Sabbath to name a small few.

Try it if you want them off your back.

My bro. has long hair too. B’cs he was lazy to go to the barber after his fav. & inexpensive barber retired & closed down coz. he didn’t wanna spend so much getting a cut living on a monthly budget in college & put gel to style it up daily..so he kept his hair for almost 5years+.

But he always tie it in a pony tail & once a while trimmed it so it won’t tangle up & look all mess up dirty esp. whn he’s doing work. Neither his lecturers nor his employee said anything of his hair infact some even pulled his ponytail whn he sleeps in the class & gals always play wth it.

Most of school & work place ppl are alright wth him. I believe it’s coz. he maintains a clean sleek look & he’s always performed himself as a team player, leader & performer. That way he build his own image without bending to rules & yes, he’s into metal too. But he won’t on his music too loud unless no one’s around or he wears a headset.

Maybe your hair is greasy and smells. Maybe they just don’t like the fact that you write run-on sentences and misspell things. Maybe they think metal sucks and are really big rap fans. Or maybe you’re giving yourself too much credit. Maybe they don’t actually think anything about you other than that you’re a student who needs a hair cut.

They are expressing their personal opinions, just as you like to express yours. How you wear your hair is just “fashion” and has nothing to do with your value as a person or your competence as a student. And consigning people to hell because they disagree with your opinions seems a bit extreme. Anyway, you go to school to get an education. Don’t let your opinions and your sense of style interfere with that. You don’t need to like your teachers, just learn what you need for life.

Why don’t you develop a little maturity. Stop wasting your energy complaining and looking for trouble. You are treating school as a place where you turn up each day to display your defiance and annoy your teachers.

Start paying attention in class and you might learn something. That’s what school is all about – learning.

Just a guess, but it’s probably because you are lazy as a student and make their life as a teacher difficult. If you were a good student and pleasant to have in class, most teachers wouldn’t have a thing to say about your look.

Rather than griping about how the world sees you, maybe you need to look at how you see the world and what image you present to the world.

some times i wonder if they do this to see how far they can push you

some do it because the see more then what meets the eye and just be cuz you like mettle don’t mean you have to look like you do!

some do it because you don’t meet there expetations

over all it’s crappy that people judge a book by it’s cover but it’s true people do that more then not! there for you have choices to be the best you can be for yourself or for the world~
