Teaching Degree.?

I live in TX and would love to get my teaching degree. I would be interested in teaching up through grade 8.

I am not sure where to start. I am an actor, who wasn’t really interested in school, so I went to Community College for 1.5 years then moved to NY. I went to a conservatory there.

What would I need to do at this point. I love children and would love to contribute to their growth in any way I can. My grades at College were not bad, and I was a good student.

Just feeling a little lost, and not sure where to start. Does anyone have any advice, especially those in TX.

I would start with going to the following website:

http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/certinfo/becometeacher.asp?width=1024&height=768

The information on the page outlines how to become a teacher in Texas “whether you are a recent college graduate, a mid-career changer, a teacher from another state/country, or someone who does not yet have a college degree.”

I am not sure what Texas requires. If no one here can help you I would call your state’s Department of Education. I think you will probably have to go back to college. I am not sure what grade level you are looking at, but I would assume that you wouldn’t have to take as many classes if you wanted to be a Drama teacher as opposed to an Elementary teacher since already have some credits and experience \ in the subject.

Well, if you didn’t really find school interesting, I don’t think you’ll like teaching, but it is up to you.

Pick out a college you want to go to.

Go to the admissions office.

See if you qualify to get in.

Just tell them you want to be a teacher, and ask them, how do I do that?

That’s why they’re there. To answer questions like yours. And it’s really the ONLY way to do it.
