Teacher salaries in West Virginia & Virginia?
I’m majoring in elementary Education and I was curious about the salaries on average in West Virginia compared to Virginia. Where I live the salary starts at $36K a year with a bachelors. What is the rate in West Virginia as well as the cost of living? (I’ve heard in W.V. its $41K)
I’m not teaching for the money, but because I enjoy children and teachings. However, I don’t want to get into a job where I’ll be barely making ends meet. (Here in VA, I’d get $3,000 a month ($900 from taxes plus other bills, rent can be $1000, sometimes less plus other bills)

Ohio has a starting pay around $20K and most of the areas in West Virginia pay less than that. You might make more in Charleston, Huntington, or one of the other cities, but not in a rural area.
I did some checking a couple of years ago, so unless they have made big increases in the last couple of years, West Virginia is going to pay less. Check the West Virginia Department of Education website for information or if you can’t find anything, call them.
