The classes will vary depending upon the teacher, the college and the college’s accredidation.

Some things that I would think would be covered:

Theories of Piaget, Bloom, Maslow, Erikson, and about 5 others (that I can’t remember).

Stages of Development (in terms of cognitive development and social development)

Bridging (or scafolding) techniques

Ok, so in short, you are in for a lot of educational jargon… have fun, and take it with a grain of salt, because when it comes down to it, it doesn’t matter that Joey is a pre-operational 5th grader… you still need to teach him.

The practicum is where you practice your student teaching, at least that’s what it was for me. It’s a scaled down version of what you will be doing once you enter student teaching. Half the semester we were in class learning about lesson plans, unit plans, classroom management, the other half of the time we were at a participating school observing, doing research on the school, and taking a turn at teaching a unit—usually 6-8 lessons.

Most of the stuff listed by wizzardx3 is covered in Ed Psych more so than the Practicum. You might review Bloom’s Taxonomy and Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences briefly, but I think you’re expected to know that prior to your practicum. If you don’t know it, don’t sweat it, it’s not hard to learn about.
