Power of One?
I’m reading the book called The Power of One by bryce courtenay and i’m a little confused on wether or not Peekay is white or african american. I’m having trouble on what race he is and what race some of the other characters are. If you could tell me what race they are i’d really appreciate it! thanks

Peekay is a white South African boy, Geelpiet (Yellow Peter) – his boxing assistant in the Barberton prison – is a so-called colored (born from a mixed race, i.e. black and white).
Barberton is a small town in South Africa. The prisoners are all black, because in those days the prisons were segregated by color, although the prison officers are all white.
The rest of the people that he comes in contact with are mostly white – Hoppie, the professor, everybody in the boarding school, Mevrou (missus, which denotes a married woman), the librarian with whom he corresponded, etc.
Enjoy the book! and then read the follow up called “Tandia”
