P.E. Teachers and Mechanics Please answer?

I am about to graduate highschool and I need to decide between these two career paths because i will be starting college soon.

Mechanic-

I love working with my hands. I like cars and was thinking about trying to work for BMW.

I would only need 2 years of education for this.

The con is that I would have to work full time and overtime more than likely and getting holidays off is a joke.

High school P.E. teacher-

I love, Love, Love the idea of getting off of work at 3 or 4pm everyday. Weekends off, 3 day weekends, holidays, summer off. You couldn’t ask for a better job and in my area you start out at $37,000 a year being a teacher. Which isn’t bad when you consider all the time off. I like to be fit and would like to teach others how to. I was a funny guy in school and a bit of a slacker so i think I could relate with the kids and allow them to have a good time in my class while learn to stay fit.

I really can’t decide. Tell me what you guys think????

Depends on which BMW dealership you go to work for. I know of someone I tried to hire away from the BMW dealership in my town. His verifyable income (yes I did check) was over 80G a year and he worked mon-fri 9-5.The guy is 26 years old.

Think about that and do a little more research.

I see that you put that you love, Love, Love the idea if getting off work at 3 or 4, weekends, holidays, and summer first. The second thing you listed was the money. If that is your motivation for getting in to teaching I would advise you to follow the mechanic route. Almost the last thing that you listed is that you would like to teach.

If you think that you really want to teach, then volunteer to tutor at your jr high or elementary school for a little while. If you like that then go for it. You should test out the waters a little bit before you jump in!

Most PE teachers also teach another subject in addition to the PE class, health and science are common. There is a lot of competition out there for PE teachers and its very rare to find one that only teaches PE.

You need to find out what it is that you want to do. Forget about the money, the hours, the benefits. Forget about all that stuff and find for yourself what it is that you want to do, then do it. If you do want to find out then that means volunteering and doing internships at places that you think might fit what you want to do.

My point is, those are both great jobs, and either choice would be awesome if thats what you want to do. But, Its up to you to figure that out.

Good luck!
