Suppose you came in to talk to her about yourself. What would you say, and how would you say it? Tell her where you came from, and about your family, and what they do, and where you live. Write it just like you’d say it, and then go back and clean up the grammar and spelling. That should make it sound more genuine.

Begin the letter with words that describe you.

For example:

Dear Mrs. Torres,

Energetic, A dreamer, and procrastinator; that’s me!

Then give examples of things you like to do as well as some background info about you.

When you describe yourself, talk about the good things as well as things that others don’t see as good. I think that will make your letter stand out from others.

Although I’m sure the teacher will enjoy learning about you, she is also evaluating your writing skills. This is your only change to make a good first written impression. So, yes, start off

Dear Mrs. _____,

My name is _______ ______ and I am in your __ period class…

In separate paragrahs describe yourself physically, describe your family, and your favorite things – 3 is fine. Then conclude.

Make sure you use complete sentences and your spelling is correct. Do NOT use “texting” lingo or abbreviations.
