I used to do some in-home daycare for just one family’s children (2 kids). In the state I lived in at the time, I had to have CPR training, a criminal background check, drug testing, and my home was inspected. I also reported the income.

I found that by the time my tiny bit was added to my husband’s income it moved us to a new tax bracket. Between that and the cost of additional doctor’s bills we had from the extra visuses my kids caught, I found I made wayyyyy less than minimum wage for a 65 hour work week (6am to 7pm). It wasn’t worth it. I hope you find better luck with it. 🙂

You need a license to start a daycare in the United States. You also have to pay taxes on it as a personally owned business. I’d suggest you find somebody who can answer your questions in person. Yahoo isn’t going to give you any specific answers. And if you try to start the daycare without the government knowing, you could face big penalties. You will be putting other peoples’ kids at risk. They will find you.

It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to do that. CPR training might be beneficial, for example. I know you have to have a license to start a home day care, but the requirements may be different in different areas.
