If you try to change them, they … and you, will become frustrated. The main guy you can change is yourself.

But if they see you having fun with your reading and quote things at times, and tell them where you got it, they may get interested in what you like so much.

eg. Next time you take a sandwich to the park, toss one piece of bread, and see how many birds come. toss one piece every 15 secs, and more will come.

BUT …

… after the first bird appears, grab him and start shoving bread into its beak, and not many other birds will come around you.

Coax, don’t try to convince.

Reading isn’t one of those things that we have to do anymore- we have other things to keep us company like TV, movies, radio, music, video games, nature, etc. Some people will never love to read, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is there preference. I hate reading but I can get taken away by a book that I enjoy the subject in. I think the best thing to do is give other people books that are catered towards their tastes: humor, drama, etc.

Reading could be similar to watching a movie. For instance if a person is into fantasy type stories(Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc.) , you could share a fantasy type book to that person. There are lots of books with different themes that would interest a person.

I read to my children every day. I also read everyday to model the example. I also take my children to the library once a week to get new books to read so it is not the same stories everyweek. I also get myself a book and read it after the kids go to bed. I have been married 10 years and my husband hated to read when I met him A few days ago. By the time we married, he was reading on our honeymoon. He reads books all the time too. I figure the best I can to is lead by example and hopefully give my children the same love for books. Then they can pass it on to their kids and so on.

i hav tried this with my friends & sis…

just tell them what they are missing…make them feel just a tiny bit left out with me & my buks…show them that the movies they see are based on buks…

in the end u cant force anyone…its their loss if they aren’t convinced
