-getting the main idea: give 15 paragraphs and ask them to underline the main idea and double underline the supporting details

-determining the cause and effect: simply give them sentences with a cause-effect relationship, and ask them to underline the cause, and double underline the effect

-distinguishing between fact and opinion: ask them to identify the sentences whether they are a fact or an opinion

-predicting outcomes: give them situations and ask them to give the best answer; give choices

-drawing inferences: same with predicting outcomes
