I’m going into my senior year at high school, and my principal is a great example of someone who has “connected” to students. He goes to events of every group/team, not just football. He helps out with the drama set painting and even acts in it sometimes. As crazy as this sounds, sometimes he’ll stand in the halls with a big box of candy and just hand it out to the kids as they leave school.

It just lets us know that he cares about what we’re doing and tries to brighten our days a little. =]

They don’t act personally offended when a student does badly, just accept that they are bad at the subject and continue to be friendly! If you aren’t, the student will just get more discouraged.

After you are done explaining something, pick a random person from the crowd to explain it again. This really works when my math teacher does it. It keeps everyone on their toes!

Never hesitate to send someone out of the class or punish them if they’re being disruptive, cuz you don’t want to be a doormat, but at the same time don’t get angry. Just send them out firmly and continue being nice.

Make a lot of jokes! If you’re funny or at least try, the kids will connect to you more and think of you as a nice person.

Don’t worry, it may take awhile, but if the teachers at Dominguez High can do it, you can too! Good luck =)

teachers/principals are open with all the students and they give the students trust so they can feel like they’ve got someone but try to not do alot of notes and stuff.. try to make class fun by doiing more activities and things the students like

Be inspirational and bring some meaning into your speeches. Most kids don’t like speeches because they’re always on cards and papers. Give unplanned, bursts of wisdom. I love my principal’s speeches because of that reason. It’s from the heart.

And most of all, don’t ask for students’ opinions if you they won’t be anything but opinions they’ll voice to you and you’ll simply listen to and not do anything about. We feel like schmocks when that happens.

The number 1 way to connect with your students is to be funny. Be a comedian, I have had some excellent teachers who ere very funny. I don’t know how they did it, if they practiced or if they were naturally funny. if you just arent a funny person, try being a little off-beat and original, use horrendous puns, tell funny stories occasionally tell things very bluntly, every now and then strip away the extra niceness and tell it to your students straight, “damn straight” in one sentence and then finish the long nicey PC lesson.(be politically incorrect every now and then, when its funny)

The best way for teachers to get the attention of their students is to have as many hands on activities as possible. That was always the funnest way for me to learn.

Maybe they have some commitment with students. Somebody that there teacher teach them boring. But if there were funny times, just like joking. Maybe that would be a lot fun. And we should http://teacher-appreciation.info/ them. Thanks to them.
