Waiting until the night before an exam to study makes things a lot harder. I tell my students to spend 10-15 minutes each night just going over their notes from the day. This is in addition to the regular homework that is assigned and this is for every single class. If you have 6 classes and you spend 10 minutes on each of them, that makes an hour of review time. That sounds like a lot, but by reviewing every night your brain retains more of the information. And you don’t have to do this for 10 straight minutes either. Review for 30 minutes before dinner, take your dinner break, and then review for another 30 minutes. Every couple of nights ask one of your parents to quiz you using your notes, and have them mark what you answered correctly and what you made mistakes on. Then the night before your exam review everything.

Another suggestion: don’t wait until 8-9pm to start homework/studying/reviewing…that will get you to bed too late in the evening which will make you tired at school which will then decrease your attentiveness in class. Please make sure you are going to sleep no later than 10pm on school nights. I know this might sound like it is hard to do, but it is extremely important!!! Your body is still growing and needs that sleep. Give yourself a half hour or so to unwind and to get a snack after you get home, then get started on your homework. Work for a little while, then go outside for 30 minutes. After that get back to work for a little bit longer. Only you know your schedule, so you can determine what times work best for you. This sounds like a lot of time devoted to school work, but if you seriously want to remember what you are taught and earn good grades, these are some things you can do.

One last thing: try to lead a healthy lifestyle. Make sure you are eating as well as possible and that you get some sort of physical activity during the day after school. This will help you feel better about yourself and your body will perform better for you.

Stress can make things a lot harder for you. If you are like a lot of people and get really worked up about exams retaining information can become really hard. I have found some of the things that can help are using tricks, such as: finding patterns in words, one example is: port is left, and starboard is right, the way I use that is to say that left has 4 letters and right has more. Anything that can make a pattern-no matter how silly or even rude! It helps. Don’t beat yourself up, you are obviously trying. Good luck!

this is called anxiety. it is common and nothing to worry about. there is an illness called delirium that runs along with anxiety that can cause this problem. also there is a sympton that is called dissociation that can cause memory problems. look both of them up online for more information on them. you might need to see about some mild anxiety meds to help you out. also there are some deep breathing exercises that you can do that work . i use them all the time and have for 20 years. you need to relalx your shoulders and keep them down away from your head. then slowly breathe in air through your nose while counting to 8. hold until a count of 4. release slowly through your mouth to a count of 8. repeat until you feel relaxed. it takes some practice so at first you might need to find a place where you are alone and feel comfortable. not to cold not to warm. give it a try .as i stated it takes a little time to learn and to control but it does work.

The other suggestions regarding note taking are good. Maybe talk to an academic counselor at your school about study technique instruction. It might be helpful to try to start a study group with your classmates.

Also, make sure you’re getting enough sleep and eating well. Poor diet and fatigue can kill your attention span. In fact, if you have access to health care, make an appointment for blood work. Vitamin deficiencies can lower memory power.

Finally, make a realistic class/work/life schedule. If you’re chronically over committed, you won’t do well at work, school, or socially.

Try writing the down the main points. When I would write a cheat sheet I was surprised to find that I did not need the sheet. Read the lessons and learn. You should already know the material when the teacher is reviewing it.

eat brain food like sushie and salmon and things like that. Challenge yourself to mind games. Read a book. Stop drinking diet soda. Take notes. Use a blackberry. Don’t do drugs or drink to much. Take in plenty of vitamins! if you do these things you’ll remember every detail of everything!

The brain needs more oxygen and like one of the previous posts brain foods. Oxygen is provided to the brain by cardio workouts and other heavy breayhing activities.

you need to take good notes and actually study for the tests!!!

this doesnt sound like a case of memory loss, but of not paying attention and studying.

find a way to study that helps you remember everything
