Has anyone done a TEFL job overseas?

If you have gotten certified to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL) and actually done it overseas, please tell me about your experience. How difficult was it to obtain your first TEFL job once you were certified?

Yay! I love questions like this! TEFL totally changed my life. I am so happy teaching! The life-style is really great. I have a lot of free time to travel and have fun in Prague. I have met a lot of really interesting people while being here, and also made some life long friends. I cannot recommend it more!

I got my TEFL Certificate from TEFL Worldwide Prague 1 year ago and have been teaching here in Prague ever since. I found a job 2 weeks after I graduated from the course. I felt totally prepared for all of my interviews and demo lessons. I knew all the grammar that I needed to and I felt confident in my abilities. There are tons of jobs out there, you just have to be tenacious in applying. There is a high demand for teachers all over central/Eastern Europe and Asia. Pretty much anywhere! Most Asian countries will require a BA and a TEFL Certificate.

Also, make sure that you actually GO TO a school. Do NOT do an on line certification. These are not generally recognized by employers because they do not meet the teaching practice requirements.

Good luck, and I hope that you do it. It really is an amazing experience. Life really opened up for me when I came here and started teaching.

I did TEFL teaching for over 6 years and it is very easy to get a job but not so easy to land a good job in a good school with good money. Some countries seem to be more picky than others – you can get a job working in Turkey really easily for example. I have taught in India and Spain and also England for a number of years. The best teaching experience for me was in Spain. As for teaching in England, the job had lost its appeal and it seemed much more mundane. Definitely teach abroad but be choosy about which school you teach at – find out the hours you have to work, the teaching conditions, accomodation, age ranges etc. etc. Good luck – it’s a great way to travel the world and really learn about a country’s culture.

It is very easy to get a TEFL job. However, your experience depends on which country you go to and who is your employer. Also, a number of employers will require an undergraduate degreee in addition to your TEFL certification. If not, they will look for someone who is experienced.

As for myself, I am currently in Yemen working for an NGO based out of the US. They are all over the Middle East and North Africa. They pay pretty well in relation to the local economy and provide accomodation in shared housing / round trip airfare if needed.

I did research about different employers before I targeted the employer of my choice. Look up Dave’s ESL Cafe. There are a number of great resources there, as far as, advice and potential job placement. In addition, there is ESLemployment.com.

Good Luck!

No. If you’re educating in the study room then the whole lot is completed in English and there is no want for an interpreter (see the hyperlink underneath and is the reason how this occurs). Outside the study room you are going to be equipped to get via in so much areas with a few very fundamental English. Of direction if you want aid with a certain crisis then the tuition you are operating at will in most cases be equipped to aid. And it is infrequent to discover your self in a the town in which there’s no English spoken in any respect. And of direction in time you can select up just a little of the nearby language so you’ll purchase meals, order a meal and so forth. That’s aspect of the joys of going overseas to educate! 🙂

getting the job is the easy part. working and living conditions are a challenge. I ended up in china for a month. Roaches in my crummy slummy room. they tried to press us to work over time for free.

Make sure you get housing and work conditions in writing befor leaving. Try to get recommendations from someone who has been there.
