I’d just put them in school. The 6 year old will benefit greatly from an E.L.L. program, and your 4 year old will do really well, I’m sure, at a preschool. If you have a low income, I know that there are state sponsered preschools that are free.

Start giving them the English names for things they play with or enjoy. If something has meaning to you, you will more easily remember it, so if your daughter likes to play with dolls, tell her the English word “doll” whenever you see her playing with it. Also when you serve a meal, go through the English names for the food you are serving, and also the utensils that you eat with. (Example: fork, knife, spoon, plate, cup, glass, pitcher, dish, table, etc.) Basically start giving them the English name or names for something when you see them using it. As they progress you could start talking to them in English (using sentences) and having them try to figure out what you have told them to do. My friend’s mom is fluent in German and would use this method with me whenever I went to her house. Good luck!

Try the ABC, then formulate words, then let them make their own sentences. Or you can just wait ’til they go to school. They will definitely learn English there IF they speak English in that school.

Well it well be fun for them to learn nursery rhymes like

Jack be nimble

Jack be quick

Jack jump over

Candle Stick

And this rhyme is one that all little children know:

Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb

Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was white as snow

Or how about:

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Have you any wool?

Yes sir, Yes sir

Three Bags full

You can also go to educational websites like pbskids.org and maybe they have a parents section. But I think the best way for your kids to learn is by watching shows like BArney and Sesame Street.

Barney is a show about a purple dinosaur and he teaches kids different things. I still love this show and I am in eighth grade.

Sesame Street teachers children numbers and letters and words and has great characters.

Barney and Sesame Street can be seen on Channel 21- WLIW21 or on PBS KIDS which you will have to look on your T.V. guide to find the channel for bu on my T.V. it’s Channel 13.

Good Luck!
