An MA is not required…but be aware most teacher credentialing programs for elementary or secondary (jr and sr high) involves a 5 year program to complete (includes practice teaching).

Credentialing requirements vary by State…so check with your State Dept of Education and schools with teacher training programs. Read the college catalogs carefully about entrance requirements and graduation requirements.

In some States, there may be additional tests required for full credentialing.

For secondary (high school) teaching, you need to have a major subject teaching area (e.g. college major for your degree). Consider that in high school, a single teacher is in a classroom teaching a specific subject…math, chemistry, physics, etc. But also realize the more different subject areas you can teach, the better a chance you have of being hired and retained.

hope this helps….best wishes.

It depends. In my district, I needed my BA in ed. to get hired, and I had a time limit of 7 years to complete my Masters. At that time, I would be tenured and get substantially more money.

States have different requirements, so check with your particular state.
