Do you feel that our teacher should be paid a great deal more than they are currently being being paid?

In than they are educating our future leaders. Shouldn’t they being paid about 75,000. So that we can attract the best people in every field to instruct our next leaders?

I notice that the teachers that answered feel a need to justify a raise. Why? No one ever asks baseball players or actors, CEOs, or even politicians to justify their salaries. For those positions, it is a matter of how much they want to attract those with the best skills. So, should teachers be paid more? Only if you want the best people competing with each other to earn the right to teach the future generations of doctors to heal you, lawyers to defend you, engineers to build your bridges, programers to make you games, and politicians to govern you.

If you don’t think teachers are doing a good job, let’s face it, you get what you pay for.

Absolutely – but then again, I am a teacher. Sometime I wish I were paid by the hour so that I could make more. I am just now finishing up here at school ( which means I have now been here for 11 hours) and decided to kill some time on Answers to unwind so I don’t go home and unload on my husband. I work at least 10 hours a day – some days 11 or 12 plus 3-4 hours on the weekend. Our “3 months off in the summer” have shrunk to around 6 weeks. Even during those weeks off we are taking classes and attending workshops. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of your question. Unfortunately, things will not change until the profession is no longer dominated by women and until people quit visualizing teachers as being glorified babysitters who work 8-3:00 and have tons of vacation time. I know i would want the person who literally spends more waking hours a day with my child to be well paid.

I have been reading through the answers and it says about how that if teachers would earn more it would attract more highly educated people into the profession. Well I agree, but would the generally be people who are kid orinatited.

For examples, approx 30-50% of Doctors I reckon, really beacame a doctor because thats what they wanted to do. The money was a huge influencing factor. And you can tell with the bedside manner of the bulk of the doctors. And the fact that the country people are dying because theres no money in it for the doctors…

Is this the sort of way we would like our teachers to approach schooling?

Quite frankly I think teachers have a really shitty job, I gave everyone of my teachers greif from the time I could, till the time I left.

But I would still want teachers to be there because they want too, not because they get paid the right income.

I absolutely LOVE what I do! I will admit that at times I’m tired, frustrated, stressed, etc. but what occupation doesn’t have that sometimes?! Teaching is extremely rewarding. There is nothing better than the love and respect of a child. Not to mention the summers off! As long as you’re not in it for the pay! 🙂 I say go for it…I would recommend teaching to anyone who thought they would enjoy it!

I hope to become a teacher after college… I sure wished they were paid more, despite the fact that it was my career option….Teachers touch your life, they guide you towards the future…I wouldn’t be here without my teachers supporting me throughout high school.

They have to deal with fights in schools, grading papers at night, keeping time with their families…They need better support.
