i would say yes.

Even looking at this situation from the most forgiving, understanding perspective, the teacher’s behavior was extremely inappropriate. I don’t know if it would be enough to get the teacher fired, nor do I know if I would call for dismissal if a teacher I knew did that (suspension, definitely), but it needs to be brought to the attention of the principal. I would take the attention off of what the students were doing at the time (don’t use the argument “she was only asking for a pen” because it sounds like you’re saying that the teacher could be justified if the students were doing something worse) and put all the focus on how the teacher’s behavior would never be acceptable in any setting no matter what the student was doing. Don’t ask for the teacher to be fired, but maybe ask for a transfer out of that study hall and make sure the principal knows that you no longer feel safe around that teacher. Your point should be quite clear.

Well speaking from personal experience, when I was in 8th grade the guy behind me made some wise remark, the teachers back was turned and I was doing my work, the teacher walked up behind me and slammed me in the head with a couple of books, worse yet the kid that made the remark told the teacher that he was the one talking and the teacher never apologized to me.

I told my mom what had happened and she called the principal, luck for the teacher my father had passed away 5 months earlier or my dad would have beat the crap out of him.

That teacher was not there on Monday, he was fired.

Ok that was 1961, things may have changed a lot since then but I would never let a teacher get away with doing that to one of my children, EVER

Hard to tell what admin will do, but this must be reported. As a parent it sounds like simple battery. Maybe the teacher is tired because it is Friday, frustrated, whatever the reason may be……it should have been handled in a more constructive, professional and mature manner. I doubt that the principal ever pinned the teacher’s head to the table in a staff meeting for asking a question out of turn.

Probably. Teachers should never touch students, especially older students. I teach first grade and still the only contact I make with them is a pat on the back or if they initiate a hug. What this teacher did was WAY out of line and she may very well be able to be fired for this and in my opinion should especially if there are previous records of instances like this.

Is this person a teacher or a study hall monitor? In either case, she needs to be reported. The girl should also contact anyone in study hall who witnessed this to support her statement.

My guiding rule of teaching is that I treat my students the way I would like my own children to be treated by a teacher.

I would think so you should get her parents to talk to the principal because that kind of treatment is not allowed in schools unless parents authorize it. I had the same problem in basketball my coach pulled my hair but I did nothing so my advice is to speak up because then the teachers are going to feel too powerful

Oh my. IN second grade, the teacher used to beat this brother and sister with a ruler, she was fired. I think the girl needs to tell the Principal about this.

At my school Our teacher flirts with us and looks down the girls shirts. We reported him and he got fired for THAt. so i would say YES.
