The paddle was great, I got it a few times in school when I misbehaved and it didn’t warp my poor little mind. In fact, I believe I turned out okay. But bleeding-heart liberals convinced society that it’s a barbaric practice, while at the same time many parents came to think of schools as surrogate parents for their rotten little children. They want the schools to take care of their kids without touching them in any way (just like at home) and the kids are growing up without any discipline whatsoever.

And our jails are bursting with the results. Who knew?

What happens when you hit an adult with a piece of wood? You are charged with assault. If you hit your own child with a piece of wood, you would be abusing them. School and teachers are no different. In fact teachers should be held to higher standards because parents often go to them for advice.

I personally do not see the benefits of it. I respect my students and they respect me. I let them know what I tolerate and what I wont. When they cross that line, there are consequences. But I would never hit them, even if I was told to.

Many people no longer spank because they have learned it doesn’t work. The problem is not with schools (though some teachers who choose not to respect the students as human beings or let children know their expectations do have problems). The problem is that many parents are not held accountable. Many parents would rather have a social life of a teenager than care for their child, or be a friend to their child rather than teach them right from wrong. Many parents also don’t feel comfortable spanking, but don’t know any positive alternatives…so they do nothing.

Spanking only instills fear, not respect. Which would you rather have? Which would you rather your child have?

As a student myself, I would actually say it’d like it (since I never act up, and it’d be great to see some jerk getting beat up by the teacher).

But you know how the world is today – the parents would sue, the teacher fired, and the school would close down in 2 years because of a “Parents Against Paddles” campaign.

I am just hoping that you are not a teacher yourself. It is physical abuse. Teaching children to fear a teacher will not teach them to learn. It will make them resentful of school and learning and make them more likely to act up in class and in free time with friends. What needs to happen is that parents need to begin teaching their children respect for adults again…that’s what has gone wrong, not getting rid of paddling in schools.

it would have my vote….but the paddle should perhaps go onto the rumps of the parents first…just give it a thought, most children are the product of Day Care until they are twelve years of age….think about it…they are left to their own devices and the parents are obviously oblivious to what/how their selfish choices have negatively affected their own child(ren). That is the bs sooo many teachers are putting up with….you know….issues of abandonment so their parents can keep a roof over their heads…issues of neglect…because the children have parents who actually think it is the SCHOOLS job to teach their children….yes, perhaps this needs to include the basics of personable behaviors, and treating others the way you would like to be treated….like I say….spank a parents butt first….

Tasers are more high tech…and you see how even trained cops can overreact…corporal punishment is fine UNTIL you find out YOUR child has been singled out as a scapegoat- get real!

Corporeal punishment (ie – hitting children) is abhorent and the ‘bottom’ line is that it doesn’t work, that’s why it illegal in almost every civilized society. Violence begets violence.

I’m a teacher myself and every teacher would like to have more control of their class but good teachers realize that treating people like robots is not what education is all about.

I say it is not,the fear of the dreaded paddle,well you know.
