Teachers: How do you devleop a lesson plan?
I was thinking that once I obtain the textbook, syllabus, and schedule for the course, I would just teach various concepts through guided practice, homework review, and other creative concepts.

Check out Understanding by Design – it’s all about planning with the goal of student understanding as your primary focus. Very helpful site with templates and lots of useful information of UbD. Works for any content, any grade level.
