B.S in Psychology or B.A in English?

I’m fixing to start my bachelors in the fall, however I have been struggling with finding a major, like most people in college. I love to write but HATE Literature classes, and the school I’m going to has a English degree(with lit classes, etc), or a communication minor with an emphasis in journalism, also I’m really interested in Psychology, I just worry that if I decide to major in Psychology and minor in communications that my writing aspirations will be out the window. What do you all think?

Take introductory classes in each department and talk to upperclassmen who are majoring in each field. You may also want to set up a time to meet with an advisor or faculty member in each field.

These people will be able to give you a better idea of what to expect in each major, and what kinds of career paths former students chose.

You may find college literature classes and college psychology classes to be somewhat different than what you experienced in high school English and Psychology classes, too. I certainly did.

As far as becoming a writer, people from all different sorts of majors end up in “writing” and similar fields (working in publishing, etc.). Making sure you have strong writing and research skills helps, but you can develop these skills in many majors.

i’m really interested in psychology as well. but, if i were you, i would definitely just keep that as an interest. read books about it or watch tv shows. being a psychologist is a lot of school, you have to be really good and plus there’s also a surplus of psychologists so finding a job might prove difficult. as for your major, i think you should do what makes you happy. if you hate literature classes then maybe that isn’t the place for you. ultimately, it’s your decision. do what feels right. maybe take a risk and brave the lit classes. you never know, you might like them.

good luck with whatever you choose, though!
