Many people believe that creationism is a valid theory. Science is about testing theories. Teaching of science should be about developing inquiring minds. Teaching the range of theories of evolution in biology will hopefully get students to critically analyise the information provided and make up their own minds based on a review of the evidence presented.

Science operates within a wider environment. Students need to understand that science can often be controversial. I do not how you could teach Darwins theory of evolution without discussing other points of view.

There are a lot of issues to consider such as, will your school fire you if you do so? I think a couple of great sources to look for well reasoned thought on this issue are the following URLs. I’m assuming that you are a “religious” person (i.e. Christian) and thus the reason you are asking about it:

Discovery Institute

I am a conservative Christian and do a lot of study in this area. I personally think that it is beneficial to students to be exposed to a variety of ideas (especially if I disagree with them) because it gives them a better understanding of all of the sides of various arguments.

Hope these links help a little.

Can’t think of one. Unless you are teaching a course on religious origins. Of course, you would/should teach ALL of them (it would be a long course).

No religious explanation should be taught in a science course.

Nothing.

Unless you think it an equally good idea to read passages from a science book instead of the Bible at your next church service.
