1st GRADE TEACHERS- Are you ready for school?

1st GRADE TEACHERS- Are you ready for school?

This is my first year teaching and it’s 3 weeks until school starts and I don’t know what I’m doing! I have the first day’s activities planned but after that….I don’t know. Do I just jump into the lessons on the second day?

I’m suppose to meet up with a mentor teacher next week and go to new teacher orientation but I just want to know now.

Any advice?

(I didn’t do my internship as scheduled because they really needed a teacher at this school so that’s why I guess, I’m so lost.)

I am a second year first grade teacher. I would definitely take advantage of the planning time that you have with your first grade team. I got hired two weeks before school started last year and my team helped me through the whole year. They were very supportive and have a schedule planned out of the main activities and would show me all the steps for each thing that they did. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. With first graders the whole first month of school is a big adjustment period. I found that we did not do many ‘real’ assignments, mostly just assessments to place the students in reading groups and see what they know coming in and a lot and i mean a lot of behavior teaching. It seemed very repetitive, but I learned the hard way in not emphasizing all the routines and expected behavior enough. we really started the curriculum in October. Also in our school, they have half day kindergarten so most of september was having them adjust to being in school for a full day. Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions!

I’m not a teacher, but if you are going to be my daughter’s first grade teacher you better think further ahead then the first day. Her Kindergarten teacher had lessons planned for each quarter. Map out your goals and create lesson plans that will help your kids meet those goals by a deadline, either the end of the year or end of the quarter whatever. I can tell you as a substitute teacher, that it is very helpful to go into a class where the teacher has known what she is going to do for weeks.

Here are two books that can help you. Go buy them both or check them out from your local library.

First Days of School: How to Be an Effective Teacher

by Harry K. Wong, Rosemary T. Wong

The Excellent 11: Qualities Teachers and Parents Use to Motivate, Inspire, and Educate Children

I agree – go ahead and look through your materials and state/district standards and map out at least a cursory plan of what to do and when, and show it to your mentor teacher next week. I know all of it can look overwhelming – I’m doing the same thing for my son and my co op classes right now – but if you have a basic roadmap to work with, the daily activities are much easier to plug in.

Hope that helps!

You will have to ship them each to the primary grade, due to the fact in the event that they repeat once more they’re going to be eight years historic in grade one million & folks could in most cases decide upon on them. It additionally would not be reasonable to the little one that’s equipped to must repeat, it could be dull for him. You particularly are not able to break up them up both, due to the fact while one brother thinks he’s smarter then the opposite brother he’ll certainly not allow it move. Just positioned them in combination within the 1st grade & speak to the university approximately further aid & targeted demands categories to aid him get on monitor with every body else.
