What’s A Good Foreign Exchange Program?

I’m really interested in studying abroad in England, Ireland, or France. Does anyone know any reputable programs?

Also, for people who have done exchanges to countries where you didn’t study the language prior to leaving… was that challenging? How long did adjusting take?

There are quite a large number of exchange programs operating in the U.S. The list of those certified can be found at www.csiet.org. Don’t use one NOT on that list! You should also check with your high school counselor as any organization is only as good as the local people you would work with.

Good organizations are Aspect, AFS, Rotary (the cheapest, but most competitive), 4-H, YFU.

I would highly suggest studying where you are immersed in a foreign language. That is one of the biggest benefits of an exchange year and the one that will remain with you the longest.

As an added bonus, many colleges and universities offer preferred admissions and/or scholarship opportunities to former exchange students — especially those who have studied a foreign language.

Yes, it does take time if you have not studied the language before. A word of caution on that subject — France and the French part of Switzerland generally require two years of French before you are eligible for programs there (except summer cultural programs). Most other countries do not have that restriction.

I only knew 3 words in Japanese…Hello, I love you and good bye.

It took me 3 months of total emersion to start speaking.

I suppose you can also simply ought to wait to get your measure. Once you could have it you’ll be able to observe for the JET application, which you’ll be able to journey to Japan and coach english with a income of 3000 USD/mo and your flight. Can you now not get a task and shop up? A Flight to Japan ( from NYC / LA is less expensive) in off season is round 1200 if you’re fortunate, plus let’s imagine a month in a guesthouse in a huge town could probably be approximately 500 bucks. Daily meals will also be performed for 15 dollars/day if you do not brain consuming ramen noodles a couple of occasions per week. So you’ll be able to have one month in japan for round 2100 (there are different fees similar to transportation) I imply thats now not too luxurious for one month, and obviously you could have multiple month off for the duration of your complete yr? At eight$/hr for a 40hr week for one million month is 1300. So you’ll be able to simply ought to shop. A lot of the alternate methods have a 2000 cost, so thats loopy. Hope you discover some way!
