TEFL- Certification & Securing A Job? Where Do I Even Begin?

I am very interested in teaching English overseas. I currently hold a B.A. in History from a University here in North Carolina. I also just got back to NC from 8 months in New Zealand, where I worked for 8 months. I was wondering how to figure out what company/school to go with to get my certification? Any suggestions? I am looking for any advice from someone who is or has taught overseas. What steps did you take? How long did the whole process take you? I am looking at leaving the US after May 2008. Any help/tips/suggestions would be great!

I am just looking for a starting point because there is so much information out there that I feel a bit over my head. I have traveling experience as well as a degree. I also tutored college students for three years? Where do I start the process to get certified and leave the US with a secure job?

TEFL/TESOL is taught almost every where, you would be surprised if I were to tell you go to google.com (which is the easiest and fastest way) and type in tefl/tesol certification, maybe you will find an institution around the corner from where you at. Good luck.

who would you be teaching english as a foreign language to? there are british schools there and they dont need EFL as they cater to english speaking pupils. local schools would require more that than certification and you would need to be able to speak arabic to communicate with the totally arabic speaking students that you would be faced with. my friend teaches english in a government school in dubai she is married to a local and speaks the language and has a teaching degree. there are other schools in dubai such as french schools where i guess you may be able to get a job if you spoke french. look on some of the websites that are used for recruitment of teachers in dubai such as the times or telegraph you may be able to get more info there
