Is it a failure to not get National Merit?

I just got my PSAT score back and i didnt get National Merit. my parents say that i now will never get into college or be successful in life. they think that everything i do is a big failure and nothing seems to please them. should i be worried about getting into college (and paying for it) if i do get good grades and am in IB?

No, its not a failure. National Merit is just an extra boost. Of course you’ll get into college if you just have good grades, extracurriculars, etc. Your parents seem really tough. But don’t worry you will get into college. Good luck.

Some people just don’t test well. It doesn’t mean you’re a failure. There are many other ways to get money for college and thousands of people in college don’t have National Merit scholarships. Don’t get discouraged by one setback. Always try your best.

Wow, your parents are rather harsh. Listen, getting National Merit is hard to do for most students. Even though you didn’t get National Merit, you seem to be on the right track and you will get accepted into college.

National Merit Scholarships are really hard to get, so don’t feel bad about it. If you’re doing well in school and taking hard classes, you’ll definitely get into college.
