I am chronically sick. Should I be taking 16 credits?
Is 16 credits too much for someone like me who has Lyme disease? Specifically, Lyme Disease makes you chronically tired and weak, making it a herculean challenge to stay awake in class. If you suggest I take 16 credits, how can I deal with the Lyme so it doesn’t take control of my educational goal of 16 credits?

Most schools allow those with illnesses to utilize an IEP (Individualized Education Program), which allows you to use your (medically documented) illness to your advantage. Many options include independent study (not having to attend class but completing the work on your own), individualized test-taking (longer time, more breaks, etc) and other things that make it easier to succeed in school while maintaining your health. If you feel like you can’t keep up, maybe you should consider online classes, tutoring, or going part-time to make sure that you stay as healthy as possible.

I would say to take the minimum amount of credits to be full time… im taking 17 credits right now (13 is the minimum at my school to be full time) and its really tough!!
Next semester I only have to take 14 and then im graduating from my community college… hopefully then it will be easier.
I think if you cut back on ur credits then you can focus more on those classes and not worry about being sick and having a ton of classes bc you can probably cut off 1-2 classes this way.
good luck with whatever you decided to do. 🙂
