First create an organized, comfortable workspace with all of your supplies and everything. Make sure that you have no distractions, like the TV or radio. Then study.

When I was in college for nursing…we had lots and lots of homework and study that was necessary every week. I tried not to get overwhelmed by it all. Here are some of the things I did:

Set aside two hours a day for study. Even if you dont use the whole two hours to study…you can relax and go from one subject to the next without feeling rushed.

Prepare to study…have your favorite pair of loose fitting sweat pants and a big sloppy shirt that you wear when you study…get some snacks and something good to drink ….go to the bathroom before you start to study.

NO RADIO OR TV while you study. Focus on what your doing. If the radio or TV is on….your distracting yourself and making this twice as hard.

Have everything you need in one area….and study in the same place all the time. Make that a comfy place, but not so comfy that you will fall asleep. Make it like an office. Everything within reach.

Dont dread studying. Make it enjoyable. Start with a subject you really like to get going ….then work at a good pace to get through it all.

Within your two hours…if you have four subjects….give yourself a half hour for all four. Set a clock so you are trying to beat the clock and wont waste time….if the alarm goes off before your finished with another subject …set the amount of time you think you will need to finish this subject before moving on to the next one. This does take some practice but will keep you from just sitting there staring at your books instead of reading them.

Schedule, schedule, schedule. You cannot concentrate on your studies if your worried about whether you have clean clothes to wear tommorrow, or if you paid a bill, or if need to buy groceries….schedule time to take care of the small stuff so it wont interfere with your study times.

Get involved with study groups….as long as they are seriously committed to studying and not just goofing off. You have no time to waste on people who are not serious about their studies.

Take time to leave the books and all the worries for two hours a week to go out and socialize with people that are unrelated to school…This will give you some sense of balance in your life.
