“On-campus dormitories”? In Oxford??? The standard joke about visiting Americans is that they walk round the city asking people where the campus is. It’s not a campus university. Bee is either winding you up, or she’s talking about Brookes which is an entirely different university.

You should be aware that London is very, very expensive as far as accommodation goes, and also you nearly always have to factor in travel costs from where you will be living to the university itself, even if you are in a university hall. It’s much more expensive than just about anywhere else. Make sure you get quotes which are specific to London and not general to the UK. But if money is tight you will be better off applying to just about anywhere else in the UK. Except maybe Oxford which is also very pricy for accomodation.

I’m studying abroad right now in Oxford. I was originally an exchange student from a university in Texas but I liked the school so much, I actually just transferred to Oxford. I just started my second year at the uni and I love it. As for expenses, all I can say is that for my first year, my native university and Oxford gave me enough scholarships and grants so I wouldn’t have to worry about paying for tuition and books. They would’ve covered housing as well, but I really didn’t like any of the on campus dormitories. I’m living at my own flat in Oxford which my parents pay for. They also take care of all my expenses. A lot of people who are here studying who are from America have jobs but I don’t. Also, I know that the plane ticket from Texas to London always costs my parents about twelve-hundred dollars. It can be a bit pricey but if you’ve got generous parents and good marks for scholarships, you can definitely manage it.

Good luck!
