Pre-Dentistry at US University?

I am going to apply for Pre-Dentistry in the USA. Can i major in any subject and do certain courses as pre-dentistry for getting admitted into Dentistry?

Will i fullfill the entry requirements for applying to Dental School if i do major in any subject along with the modules(courses) of pre-dentistry?

What do you recommend me for major? What is the best idea for increasing possibility for admissions?

Thnaks.

Yes, you can major in any subject as long as you take the required courses in your pre-dentistry program, which usually include Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English courses. Most pre-dentistry students choose to major in Biology, Chemistry, or any other science subject. If you choose to major in any non-science subject, you may stand out from the crowd, however, dental schools will still expect high grades in all your science subjects. Some electives including biochemistry, human physiology, human anatomy, and immunology may also be helpful. Talk to your pre-dentistry advisor about your curricular plan.

Good luck!

Here’s what I know as a dental student and classmate of a few future oral surgeons: 1. Yes, I do believe all “oral surgeons” are technically oral and maxillofacial surgeons. You may choose to limit your practice to difficult extractions, but most dentists who choose to do OMFS would rather spend their time performing orthognathic surgeries and reconstructions. If you’re only interested in doing extractions, you can do a year-long fellowship in oral surgery or a general practice residency to get more experience with this. 2. 3-4 years of undergrad (a degree is not necessary, but by the time you have completed all of your pre-dental requirements, you will be a few credit hours short of a biology/chemistry degree). This is followed by 4 years of dental school (although there is at least one 3-year program out there), and then 4-5 years in an OMFS residency. OMFS is extremely competitive, so make sure you are keeping your grades up and getting to know the OMFS faculty from day one. 3. Depends on what you do and what part of the country you’re in. Typically I would say about $300,000 and up.
