What kind of strategies do they give in SAT prep classes/books?

Any nice examples? Are they helpful at all? Because there’s a $300 (!) class being offered in my area, and as of now, I’d rather study and practice on my own.

Even if you don’t take the class, you should probably get a book to practice with—you need to get familiar with the kinds of questions asked, the material covered, the format of the test and so on.

Some examples of tips given at prep classes:

On reading passages: read the questions before you read the passages so you can look for the answers as you go rather than having to waste too much time re-reading.

On sentence errors and sentence improvement: read the sentence in your mind with the answers to see which one “sounds” right, and to make sure your answer makes sense.

Physically cross out answer choices you know to be wrong, so you can better focus on the ones that might be right.

It’s often faster and easier to plug in the answer choices on math problems, rather than actually working through formulas.

A lot of what you get from prep classes is basic, universal test-taking strategies, and many of them are in nearly any review book you could buy. There are other things too, I’m sure. Prep classes will also review material with you and have you take a few practice tests, tell you what your scores mean for you, help you use your scores to determine what you need to study.

I also think a main function of the prep classes is to give students CONFIDENCE. Because the more prepared you FEEL, the better you do.

It’s up to you… do you think you would benefit from a prep class? Or do you think you can study on your own?

Good luck!

wow thats really good for a prep class

Princton and Kaplan cost at least a 1000!!! honestly kaplan helped me raise my score at least 200 points but that was right when i started to do SAT stuff. other than that it didnt do anything cuz they just give u easy SAT tests so that u would do good and then the real SAT would be different.

try to study by urself and take that class. good luck!!
