The SAT is the Standardized Aptitude Test, I think. It is usually necessary to get into a very good school, although not for smaller community and technical colleges. Many schools are also accepting the ACT, which is like the SAT but less hard and without a required writing section. Most teens applying to college do take the SAT. It is pretty hard and very long- about 4 hours, so it’s quite stressful. There are several companies who make study books for it: The Princeton Review, Kaplan, Barron’s, and the College Board are a few. Just practice, practice, and practice. And study. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/about.html will tell you most anything you want to know about the SAT.
Another thing you can do is take the PSAT, which is basically a shorter version of the SAT. It will give you similar questions and a general idea of what the SAT will be like (no essay, though). And to estimate what you’ll get on the SAT you just add a 0 to the end of your PSAT score. Good luck!

its a test to determine your intellectual standing among the nation. to rank you in the nation. but its actually a bunch of crap and half of the test is on stuff that you don’t learn in a public school & you can’t help it because you can’t afford a private school.
the test is perhaps the most torture you will ever experience.
