What is correct- “Why did you took it out” or “why did you take it out”?
which of the above statement is correct?
When to use “took with did” and “take with did”
Favorite Answer
took could be used by the person answering
“I took it out because…”
took is the past tense of take.. therefore you could use it in a sentence such as that but In a different way..
“Who took the plug from the socket?”
“Someone took the plug from the socket.”
“You took that plug from the socket.”
Consider it a rule not to use “took” and “did” right next to each other. Did is only used in front of words that are present verbs. Example
I did run.
I did jump.
I did fly.
If you use words in the past tense, take out did…
I ran
I jumped
I flew
I took the plug from its socket
or, ” What route did you take that took so long?”
Sorry I can’t explain the grammatical clauses tenses and cases if I could I’d be doing better at foreign languages.
For a question it would be “Why did you take the plug out…?”
(The past tense interrogative is:did+pronoun/noun+ present tense simple of the verb: Did you go?; Did you study?; Did she write?; Did it eat?; Did he sleep? Did they run? Did Mary visit her friends last month?; Yes she did, she visited them. Is it a bit clear now? I hope so…) Take good care!
