a prep? as in a person stereotype?…it comes from Preparatory School, which is a type of private high school or post-high school (sometimes people will do a post-grad year to prepare for college)..and it’s stereotyped as a type of school that rich kids go to, waspy kids (as in white-anglo-saxon-protestant)…so when people dress in polo shirts and that type of clothing, they call it preppy.
