What is a criterion score and how is it determined?
For example if I was finding out one for a long jump. whould I average many trials or just take the best one.

I don’t think you’d average many trials. It’s determined by having experts in the field decide what a good score should be and has nothing to do with how other people do.
Think of the driver’s test–written and moving. They are criterion measures. You either pass or fail.
