What grades are considered “good” for today’s standards?

I get A’s and B’s and i currently have a 3.729 GPA. I would like to know in what range i should strive for to gain acceptance into a competitive college in terms of GPA and what kind of grades i should be getting- i have enrolled in 2 AP classes, four honors, and 2 regulars. What’s “good” and what should i be getting

Ideally you should try to get a 4.0 but very few people can do so. A G.P.A. you should strive for would probably be 3.8. That puts you in a high class percentile. Also get into as many extracurricular activities as possible. Get letters in Academics, Music, and Athletics if you can. Take a foreign language for at least two years. All these things not only help getting into college but also for applying for scholarships. Last but not least find out if the college you are looking to apply to requires the A.C.T or the S.A.T. Once you do STUDY FOR IT! These are not like ordinary tests. If you take them cold you will do very poor unless you are a super genius. If your school sets up practice sessions I suggest you take them. They will give you a heads up on what the tests are like. I hope this helps.

You are doing perfectly fine as of now. Strive for that 4.0 and keep doing your work.

Go volunteer somewhere and keep a good outside school profile.

Do well on your SATs.. A good score that will be a tremendous boost to your acceptance rate would be breaking 2150+.

Do many clubs and earn many credits.

Do all this, you will go to a great competitive college. But not like Harvard or Princeton. If you wanna go to those, I’d suggest putting all the people that are above your rank in your basement, locked, without getting caught and you become valedictorian. And then lock up all the smart people applying for Harvard or Princeton around the world and profit. 1 Application. 1 Acceptance. lol..

You’re doing great.

Try to get that 4.0, and study for the SATs.

I suggest going to Barnes&Nobles, and buying an SAT study guide, so you know what to know, and so that you’ll be prepared.

That is if you haven’t taken the SATs yet..

Yeah,

then basically try everything your school has to offer=)

AND volunteer at local functions!

It looks great on a resume=]

anything above 3.5 is “good” but not necessarily spectacular, which is what most good universities want.

most students at harvard, yale, UCLA, *insert other great school here* have higher than a 4.0 due to AP classes

Your doing just fine. You should always strive to be better, but you sound like you have your priorities straight.
