What does the top 1-2% in the SAT mean in terms of points?

When one is in the top 1-2% of the SAT scores, what would that translate to in terms of adding the reading and math?

You would need a combined reading and math score of 1450 or higher to make the top 2%. 1480 would get you into the top 1%.

If this or another answer here proves helpful in your research, you can encourage good answers by choosing one answer as the “best answer.”

The test is normed regularly, so the mean and standard deviation changes a little each year. These changes are minimal, just a few points. For the sake of argument, lets assume a mean of 500 (which is is not, but is close) and a SD of 100 (which it is not, but it is close) and a normal distribution (which is is not, but it is close) the 98th percentile is an easy look up on a table of probabilities. The exact number doesn’t matter so much, and you don’t get a number of points for each answer toward the 800 max. The answer is that it is above something around 750, which is pretty good even for a highly selective college. It also means that out of 100 people who took it, 2 got scores higher than you, 20 out of 1000, 200 out of 10,000, so there are several thousand people who score higher and they are mostly applying to the same highly selective colleges.

That really depends on the cohort that takes the exams with you. But if you really want a good grade that goes into approximately top 10% or less…it should be higher than 2100 upon 2400…And the score is as a total so it doesn’t really matter how much you score for each section as long as they sum up to 2100.

Also note that there are now 3 sections to SAT 1…the writing, critical reading and math..these 3 should sum up to 2100 for a good grade..

All the best

There is no exact points answer to that question. Depending on how the total number of test takers perform each time the test is given, you would be in the top 1-2% of those scores. So, it would depend on how others do on the test as to how many points it takes to be in that top percent.

properly, even regardless of the undeniable fact that I even have Jordan as my avatar I initially positioned him there as a mockery. yet i don’t care if Jordan became the final. To me Kareem is the final. yet MJ became greater useful than Larry poultry. Michael Jordan did not have an entire group till finally the very very previous due 80’s. Larry poultry won’t be able to be greater useful than Magic via fact Magic outdid him. NO. Magic outdid Larry in college and interior the NBA. in case you won’t be able to a minimum of admit that then no one is going to take you for something greater beneficial than a biased fan.

When I was in school (I graduated in 1984 from HS) 1600 was the top score on your SAT.

That changes every year, depending upon how people do.
